Decorating Tips

There are many different ways that you can decorate your finished belly cast. Depending on your taste you can choose how you would like the final look to be, including just leaving it plain.

You can trim the rough edges of your completed belly cast with a pair of scissors. If you want a smooth and softer finish to your belly cast you can purchase gesso or spackle from a hardware or home improvement store, mix and spread it over the finished cast. Use some sanding screen to smooth it down further.

Other ideas for decorating

paint it
glue dried flowers on it
use fabric to create a shawl or drape on it.
tie ribbon around it
create a type of collage by pasting pictures onto it.
put baby's hand and/or foot prints on it once they are born
write a poem or special words onto it or inside it.

Don't worry if you decide you do not like the design you've chosen for the finished product. If you don't like what you have done you can either plaster a layer over it and start again, or apply gesso to smooth over the top. Then start again. It will only make the cast stronger if you do.
